Responsibilities
You will participate in the primary care and training of the marine mammal collection.
Maintain and clean marine mammal exhibits, contributing to their welfare
Support all aspects of marine mammal husbandry, including behavioral enrichment
Prepare food and feed animals per established procedures
Assist with the primary care and training of Otters
Observe and report animal behavior to supervisors
Aid veterinarians during routine animal husbandry
Maintain comprehensive records for feeding, behavior, training, and medical care
Enter data into TRACKS software
Store and clean utensils and equipment used for animal care
Assess water chemistry and temperature, reporting abnormalities
May plan and direct the work of interns and volunteers
Use SCUBA gear to enter exhibits for cleaning, feeding, and animal care
Support research projects on animal behavior, nutrition, and physiology
Help maintain cleanliness of the Dolphin Bay wet area
Diligence and flexibility are essential for providing exceptional care and exhibit maintenance.
Requirements
The aquarium requires a bachelor’s degree in biology, psychology, or a related field, plus at least one year of professional experience in Cetacean husbandry and training.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Open Water SCUBA certification is required
Must pass a swim test successfully
Strong competency in animal care, teamwork, and reporting is vital
Meeting these requirements demonstrates readiness for specialized and physically demanding animal care work.
