POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, the Maintenance Mechanic II is responsible for making a variety of general repairs to existing Zoo infrastructure and systems, as well as other maintenance duties such as painting and building basic structures for staff, guests and animals.
POSITION DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for general maintenance on Zoo buildings, animal exhibits and guest areas, including basic repairs, painting and building basic structures: 70%
Assists other maintenance staff with completion of generated work orders related to a variety of mechanical trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, HVAC, etc: 20%
Assists maintenance manager in implementing and executing preventive maintenance programs: 5%
Assists with snow removal during winter months: 5%
*This position may at times be requested to perform other duties or special projects as assigned, which are in the best interest of the Kansas City Zoo.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & FORMAL TRAINING:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 5 years’ general maintenance or carpentry experience preferred.
Knowledge of and experience using various power tools and maintenance equipment.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must have valid driver’s license.
Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, climb, bend and stoop.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and evening hours, in all weather extremes.
Must pass a background and drug screening.
