We are looking for an experienced designer who understands the graphics workflow and has experience managing and organizing design projects. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assists the Art Director by organizing and fulfilling graphics requests, coordinating work with other sections, and ensuring projects align with the Zoo’s mission and goals.

• Use creative design skills to design brochures, interpretive signage, marketing, promotional and informational graphics, and much more.

• The Graphic Design Lead plays a supporting role in developing the Zoo's branding and overall image and maintains the highest standards in all areas. 

• Planning and organizing daily activities effectively and independently. 

• Exercise a balanced and good aesthetic judgment and a trained, discerning eye in determining the effectiveness of designs to produce the desired outcome; the ability to balance aesthetics with function.

• Ability to conceptualize, visualize and present their own and other’s ideas.

Position/Physical Requirements:

• Must have good physical ability, vision, and hearing; able to perform occasional physical work in outdoor settings. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, see, and hear.

• Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, and the public.

• Excellent understanding of creating effective graphic, educational, and informational media for digital and traditional displays.

• Excellent understanding of prepress, digital and traditional print production and file formats.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:

• Experience with complex design software within the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Acrobat.

• Experience creating unique graphic designs that appropriately support and elevate a brand or program.

• Experience with image manipulation and resolution, color correction, typography, and vector art creation.  

• Demonstrated working knowledge of ADA guidelines (legibility, readability, contrast, physical placement, etc.)  

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in visual/graphic design, commercial art or related area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution;

OR

Associate’s degree in visual/graphic design, commercial art or related area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of visual/graphic design, commercial art or experience related to the area of assignment;

OR

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma

AND

four years of experience in visual/graphic design, commercial art, or field related to the area of assignment;

OR

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
