The Director of Finance at the Tennessee Aquarium is responsible for developing, refining, and implementing fiscal controls in line with generally accepted accounting practices for three non-profit organizations: the Tennessee Aquarium, Creative Discovery Museum, and Hunter Museum of American Art.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Direct the daily activities of the finance department including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash control, month-end procedures, and mail services.

  2. Direct the daily activities of the cash control room, including daily cash reconciliations and deposits.

  3. Assist with preparation of annual operating and employee benefits' budgets

  4. Prepare Form 990, Charitable Solicitations Registration, business tax returns, liquor tax returns, sales tax returns and other filings with federal, state, and local governments.

  5. Manage the annual financial statement audit, workers' compensation premium audits, general liability insurance audits and single audits, as required.

  6. Develop policies and procedures for maintenance of accounting and financial records.

  7. Monitor departments and recommend methods to ensure compliance with fiscal policies

  8. Develop and monitor appropriate internal controls to ensure optimum use of Aquarium resources.

  9. Perform duties listed above for the Tennessee Aquarium, Creative Discovery Museum and Hunter Museum of American Art.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or another business-related field

  • Minimum of five years in a related field, experience in a non-profit environment preferred

  • Licensed as a Certified Public Accountant

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Organized with strong attention to detail

  • Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office and Microsoft Dynamics GP

Full-time, salaried (starting at $105,000/year)
